Commonly Asked Questions

Why have a Personal Chef ?

I customize all your meals to your specific tastes, dietary and nutritional needs. Many clients hire me because they are tired of eating out or getting take out, have a very specific diet they need help with, or just don’t have time to cook!  If you are having a gathering or party in your home, hiring a personal chef allows you to fully enjoy your guests. You don't have to worry about meal planning, shopping, cooking the meal or clean-up!

Why do you have to cook in my home?

This is part of the holistic experience I want to provide as a personal chef. I want to bring a more personal touch to the food that you eat. You will experience how different you feel when eating home-cooked food. Coming home to the smell of delicious food is nourishing in itself!

Do I have to be home while you are cooking?

I can cook while you are home or away.  I cook for many of my clients while they are at work.

What do supplies do you need to cook in my kitchen?

During our first meeting in your home, I will take full inventory of what pots, pans, appliances, storage containers, etc... that you have in your kitchen. If I see there are any appliances or other kitchen tools needed, I will let you know. It is your choice to supply those items or I will bring my own.

Do I choose meals from a menu?

Together, we create your personal weekly/biweekly menu together.  Or if you are hiring me for a one-time dinner party/gathering, we will discuss your vision for your party and work out a menu together. If you have no idea what you'd like, don't worry!  I have a list of dishes that clients have enjoyed and that I love to cook to choose from. I also encourage clients to email me recipes, items listed on a menu, or food that you hear about that sounds amazing. This way I get to know what you like and can tailor all the food that I prepare for you so you are sure to enjoy every last bite!

Which Meal Package should I choose?

You are free to change up your packages from week to week. The Entree & Sides Package is a good fit for you if you like a full meal with a main entree and a couple sides. You can always freeze individual portions to eat another time.  If you enjoy soups, stews, or casseroles and you are looking for a complete all in one meal, the One-Pot Meal Package is a good choice.  If you like to have the option to mix and match some proteins and veggies and also have a couple of All-In-One style meals that you just have to heat and serve, you could try out the Weekly Cookup Package.

Where do you buy ingredients?

I normally shop at Whole Foods in Oakland but am open to shopping at other stores per clients requests.

Are there any extra costs?

If I am required to pay any tolls or parking, I will add this to your total bill.  There is a travel fee for clients who are more than 30 minutes from Oakland.
